In-app training to get your seasonal workers up to speed

The agriculture and horticulture industry is calling out for more seasonal workers, and once they have them, they need to manage them effectively. Not every labourer holds the same credentials, certifications, or competency. If you have certain workers who are not trained using certain heavy machinery, you either need to get them up to speed, or delegate the job to someone else.

Why do you need train your seasonal workers?

Training and competency checks need to be documented, as if something happens, you need to prove there was appropriate training given. Having the seasonal workers complete quick training, within the same software they are going to be using each day, will reduce the amount of documentation you need to do. The best way to do all of this, is to use software that offers the full spectrum of labour management and support. By using LiveFarmer, you collate all the information of a user, and build a profile of that person, automatically.

Competency tests

Competency covers a wide range of aspects, and each will help with understanding your workers. There could be legitimate reasons that certain people can’t do certain things, and the earlier you know about them the better. You need to know the level of knowledge and understanding all seasonal workers have. You can then delegate them to jobs that are more suited to their skillset. How many years have they worked in agriculture? What is their level of understanding regarding the technology used? How do they best communicate, or convey information? How well do they speak English, or will they need help with translation?

 Seasonal Workers Training modules

You can implement and track what training any seasonal workers have undertaken. You need to give sufficient training regarding harmful chemicals, how to use machinery properly, and training on how to use the software itself. Do you use specific chemicals on crops? Where can they locate the safety clothing required? Training can be time consuming, unless you use dedicated software; most training can be delivered online, and completed around other jobs.

Seasonal Workers Pre checklists

When anyone uses machinery, such as tractors, they have to perform checks on the vehicle before operating. Non-digital farms are using pen and paper checklists that then have to be uploaded and filed. With built in checklists, you can apply them where appropriate, and saves on double entry. The checks have to be done, but they don’t need to be done twice.
