Big innovation sponsor for the FPC Future 2023 event
This year’s FPC Future event is set to be a good one. This year has several sponsors, one in particular is the innovation sponsor, the UKRI. The UK Research and Innovation organisation was established in April 2018 to replace the Research Councils UK and Innovate UK. UKRI is a public body responsible for the funding of research and innovation activities in the UK. It is one of the largest funding bodies in the country, with an annual budget of over £7 billion. The organisation aims to create a world-leading research and innovation ecosystem that drives economic growth and societal impact. UKRI operates through nine councils, each of which focuses on a specific area of research and innovation.
- Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
- Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
- Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
- Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
- Medical Research Council (MRC)
- Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
- Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)
- Innovate UK
- Research England
Each council is responsible for funding research and innovation projects in its respective area. UKRI also works with a number of other organisations, including universities, research institutes, and businesses, to promote the development of new ideas and technologies.
What does the UKRI do?
One of the primary roles of UKRI is to provide funding for research and innovation projects. The organisation offers a wide range of funding opportunities to researchers and innovators in the UK. These funding opportunities cover a variety of areas, from basic science research to the development of new products and services.
The funding opportunities offered by UKRI are divided into several categories, including research grants, fellowships, and partnerships. Research grants are designed to support research projects in a particular area. These grants can be used to cover the cost of equipment, materials, and other expenses associated with research. Fellowships are designed to support individual researchers and innovators. These grants are intended to help researchers develop their skills and build their careers. Partnerships are designed to support collaborative projects between businesses, universities, and other organisations.
Do they offer more than just funding?
UKRI offers a range of other services to support research and innovation in the UK. For example, the organisation provides access to world-class research facilities and infrastructure. It also offers training and development programs for researchers and innovators, as well as support for knowledge exchange and commercialisation.
UKRI also plays an important role in shaping the research and innovation landscape in the UK. The organisation works closely with government and other stakeholders to develop policies and strategies that support the growth of research and innovation in the country. UKRI is committed to ensuring that research and innovation activities in the UK are aligned with the needs of society and the economy.
How can the UKRI help you?
There is a large fund released each year that helps a wide range of industries, including the agriculture industry. In the past, they have offered funding for novel technology solutions, and currently have many schemes available. There is currently a grant open for applications regarding low-emission food production systems. The future of agriculture is dependent on finding new and exciting ways to meet the growing population and its demands.
